SINGLE-FAMILY HOUSE
A small existing stone shed is the perfect excuse to explore an alternative housing type as an extension. The owners of a country house would like to turn the stone shed, located at the far end of their garden, into a guests’ pavilion. The new house will thus be used as a temporary retreat for friends and tourists wanting to spend time in the countryside. Instead of adding another freestanding volume, we chose to ‘lift’ two strips of the garden and place the extension right under it. The new house aims to integrate itself as a natural transformation of the terrain rather than an artificial construction. This decision sets the perfect conditions for a zero-energy design that will allow the owners to have a sustainable house and contribute within their means to the low carbon footprint challenge we are all addressed by.
