Treehouse in paradise: fantasy designs for 21st century
A house in a tree doesn’t need spatial relationships on the horizontal plane as houses on the ground generally do. For a more playful spatial configuration, we used a series of palm trees to hold several elements in the air, each intended for a different activiy. A void space containing two ladders links them all, becoming the heart of the house by creating circulation.
There are three spaces large enough for two people – to sleep, to keep belongings, and to enjoy the views, but not large enough for walking around. The long side is protected by a mosquito net and a roll-down blind.
There is a living space that includes a kitchen and opens onto a terrace. Underneath there is a well-ventilated chemical toilet.
A wooden deck on the sandy beach signals the entrance to the house and offers a shower before climbing home.
